Snail, Conch Horse Milk

Product Description

Product Description

The Horse Conch (Pleuroploca gigantea) is a common Caribbean snail that makes its way into the aquarium trade fairly regularly. Though often sold at tiny juvenile sizes, this snail can grow to close to two feet in length. As a juvenile, it has an orange or reddish-brown shell and bright red body. As it matures, the shell fades into a more brown or tan color and the body color may fade to a lighter orange. Despite its common name, this snail is not a true conch. It is predatory and will feed on snails, clams, polyps and other invertebrates. They can be target-fed almost any kind of meaty foods and will grow fairly quickly if well-fed. Horse Conchs are not suitable for reef aquariums but can be kept in species-only or community systems.
